Veilstone City is a gray, mineral city built around craters left by meteorites. You shop at the biggest shopping mall in Sinnoh, play at the casino, and Gym Leader Maylene trains her fighters here. Team Galactic has set up its headquarters here too.

🛍️Veilstone City
- The Veilstone Department Store sells TMs, all kinds of Balls and battle items. Stock up before going on.
- Near the Game Corner, a clown in the building on the left gives you the Coin Case, which holds your game coins.
- Near the Gym, a masseuse offers one of your Pokémon a massage every day: its happiness goes up and you receive an item.
- South of the Gym, a Roughneck gives you TM63 Embargo.
In Platinum, you are also given a level 25 Porygon in town.
North of the city, the huge Team Galactic HQ is locked. You won’t get in until much later.

🥊Maylene’s Gym
The Gym is a training hall full of Black Belts.
In Platinum, as you approach the Gym, you run into a wrestler coming out whistling: remember his face. Inside, the path crosses several rings. Piles of tires block the stairs: push the punching bags in the right direction to knock them over, then climb into the ring to face the Black Belt.

Meditite and Machoke are weak to Flying and Psychic moves: Staravia or Staraptor, Kadabra or Kirlia do the job.
Lucario, Fighting and Steel, fears neither Flying nor Psychic. Its weaknesses are Fire, Fighting and Ground. A Ponyta, a Monferno or a Gabite can beat it; beware of its Bone Rush, a Ground move, against your Fire Pokémon.
Lucario holds a Sitrus Berry and strikes with Force Palm and Drain Punch: don’t let it recover HP.
Maylene gives you the Cobble Badge, which lets you use Fly outside battle, and TM60 Drain Punch, a Fighting-type move that drains half of the damage dealt.
📦The stolen Pokédex and the Galactic Warehouse
As you leave the Gym, Dawn (or Lucas) rushes up: Team Galactic grunts have stolen the Pokédex. Meet up with them in front of the Galactic Warehouse, at the entrance to the city, for a Double Battle against two grunts (Zubat, Croagunk, Stunky, levels 24 to 26).
In Platinum, Looker arrives after the battle, congratulates you and tells you where the HM is in the warehouse.
Go into the warehouse: HM02 Fly is lying just to the right of the entrance. Teach it to Staraptor: you can now instantly travel to any town you have already visited.
South of the city, a gate leads to Route 214: Routes 214 and 213.
