To reach the north of Sinnoh, you have to cross Mt. Coronet through its foggy tunnels, then brave two snow-battered routes. The landscape changes completely: welcome to Sinnoh’s winter.
- Objective
- Reach the north of Sinnoh through Mt. Coronet and Routes 216 and 217
- Rewards
- HM08 Rock Climb, Spell Tag, Icicle Plate, TM07 Hail, TM13 Ice Beam (with Rock Climb)
- Recommended level
- 38 to 43
- Useful HMs
- Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, Defog
⛰️Mt. Coronet, north side
Enter Mt. Coronet via Route 211 (from Celestic Town or Eterna City). The northern tunnels call for several HMs: Strength to push large boulders, Rock Smash to break small ones, Defog to clear the fog from one room, and Surf to cross the underground lake, where an islet hides a Light Clay. Then follow the tunnels north to the exit onto Route 216.

❄️Route 216
Outside, everything is white. The deep snow slows you down, and many skiers and Ace Trainers challenge you with Pokémon from level 33 to 40. The snowy tall grass is home to Sneasel, Snover and, with the Poké Radar, Snorunt. In the middle of the route, a house lets you rest and heal your team: make the most of it.
In Platinum, Barry crosses your path: he is on his way to Lake Acuity and urges you to join him.
Several rock walls would allow shortcuts, but you still lack HM Rock Climb.

🌨️Route 217
A snowstorm blows constantly on Route 217: in battle, the hail hurts every Pokémon that isn’t an Ice type on each turn. Avoid unnecessary battles and keep healing items on hand.
- Behind the first house as you arrive from the south, pick up HM08 Rock Climb. It lets you climb the marked rock walls once you have the Icicle Badge.
- In that same house, a mountaineer then gives you the Icicle Plate.
- In the house to the east, a lady gives you a Spell Tag, which doubles the money earned in battle.
- Southeast of the first house, pick up TM07 Hail.

In Diamond and Pearl, access to Lake Acuity is open: you can witness the events of step 27 before facing Candice.
In Platinum, two Team Galactic grunts block the way to the lake: go to Snowpoint City first.
Next step: Snowpoint City and Candice.
