The credits have rolled and you wake up at home in Twinleaf Town. Yet Sinnoh hasn’t given up all its secrets: half of the Pokémon world remains to be discovered, and it starts with an update to your Pokédex.

Objective
See every Pokémon in Sinnoh, then obtain the National Pokédex
Requirement
having seen the Pokémon of the Sinnoh Pokédex (150 in Diamond and Pearl, 210 in Platinum)
Rewards
National Pokédex, Poké Radar, access to Pal Park and the Battle Zone

📖Seeing every Pokémon in Sinnoh

Open your Pokédex: you need to have seen (not necessarily caught) every Pokémon in the regional Pokédex, that is 150 in Diamond and Pearl and 210 in Platinum. Pokémon spotted with trainers count: the League, the Gyms and the battles against Team Galactic have already filled a good part of it.

Missing a few entries? The Sinnoh Pokédex guide tells you where to find each one in your version, and the “never in the wild” filter singles out those you need to see with a trainer, get through evolution or receive as a gift.

🔬The National Pokédex

Go back to Sandgem Town, to Professor Rowan’s lab. A distinguished visitor is waiting for you there: Professor Oak, who has come from Kanto. Impressed by your work, he upgrades your Pokédex to the National Pokédex, which can record all 493 known Pokémon. Professor Rowan then hands you the Poké Radar.

🚣Route 221

South of Sandgem Town, Route 219 and Sea Route 220 lead by Surf to Route 221. It is the only route in Sinnoh where you can land with Fly without a Pokémon Center. In its only house, a wise old man picks a level each day: show him a Pokémon of that exact level to receive a Black Belt, then, on the following days, an Expert Belt and a Focus Sash. In the south of the route, where there is no grass, you will find TM81 X-Scissor, and to the west of the house a Pure Incense.

🌳Pal Park

At the end of Route 221 lies Pal Park. Professor Oak is there on your first visit; he later settles in Eterna City, where he can evaluate your National Pokédex.

The Park lets you bring over Pokémon from Game Boy Advance games: Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen.

  1. Insert the Game Boy Advance cartridge into the GBA slot of your Nintendo DS or DS Lite (the DSi and 3DS don’t have one).
  2. In the game menu, choose “Transfer from…” and select six Pokémon, which leave the cartridge permanently. A Pokémon that knows an HM move can’t be transferred.
  3. Six Pokémon at most per day: the limit is strict in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum.
  4. At Pal Park, talk to the attendant: a Catching Show begins. Your six Pokémon spread out across the park’s habitats according to their type (field, forest, pond, mountain, sea), and you catch them again with six Park Balls, as infallible as a Master Ball.

At the end of the Catching Show, the attendant gives you a score, higher the rarer the Pokémon and the faster the catch, and gives you Berries. The Pokémon keep the item they were holding: it’s a way to bring over a Master Ball or TMs from your old cartridges.

🗝️What the National Pokédex unlocks

  • Swarms: every day, a rare Pokémon appears in large numbers on one route in Sinnoh. Dawn’s or Lucas’s little sister, in Sandgem Town, tells you which one and where.
  • The Trophy Garden of the Pokémon Mansion, on Route 212: every day, its owner tells you about a rare Pokémon that appears there.
  • The depths of Victory Road, its high-level trainers and its items.
  • The Great Marsh welcomes new Pokémon of the day.
  • The Battle Zone, in northeastern Sinnoh: the boat from Snowpoint City takes you there. This is the next step.
Diamond · Pearl

In Diamond and Pearl, other doors open: Bebe, in Hearthome City, gives you an Eevee, and a new passage on Route 214 leads to the Spring Path, then to Turnback Cave, where Giratina hides.

Platinum

In Platinum, the Adamant Orb and the Lustrous Orb are now found on Mt. Coronet: bring them back to Spear Pillar to face Dialga and Palkia at level 70. Turnback Cave also reopens the way to the Distortion World, where the Griseous Orb awaits you.

All the legendaries and their requirements are detailed in our guide Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. For the complete list of all 493 Pokémon, method by method, see our Premium file Completing the Pokédex.
