⛴️The Fight Area
At the port of Snowpoint City, the ferry takes you to the Fight Area, the gateway to the Battle Zone. First of all, two gifts: near the entrance to Route 225, a fisherman gives you the Super Rod if you answer “yes” to his question; in the Poké Mart, a lady hands you a Scope Lens, which raises the critical-hit ratio of its holder.
In Diamond and Pearl, the Fight Area opens onto the Battle Park, home to the Battle Tower: seven trainers to beat in a row, in Single, Double or Multi Battles. Its leader, Palmer, is none other than Barry’s father.
In Platinum, the Fight Area opens onto the Battle Frontier, with five facilities: the Tower, the Factory, the Arcade, the Castle and the Battle Hall. When you arrive with Barry, Volkner and Flint greet you at the entrance and challenge you to a Double Battle, with Barry at your side.
The rules and rewards of each facility are detailed in our guide Battle Tower and Battle Frontier, and the winning teams in our Premium file Battle Frontier: Strategies.

After a League victory, his team hovers around level 60; after twenty victories, it exceeds level 80.
🏕️Route 225 and the Survival Area
North of the Fight Area, Route 225 winds between the rocks to the Survival Area, the last stop before the volcano. In the house south of town, a resident gives you TM42 Facade.
In Platinum, the Survival Area houses the Battle Café, where the Gym Leaders and the trainers who accompanied you throughout the adventure accept a rematch, with Pokémon from level 60 to 65. In the northern house (reachable with Rock Climb), a Move Tutor teaches seventeen moves in exchange for Shards.

🌋Stark Mountain
From the Fight Area, surf east on Sea Route 226, then head north up Route 227: a rain of volcanic ash starts to fall. There, a young man approaches you: Buck, Flint’s little brother. He wants to uncover the secret of Stark Mountain and accompanies you into the volcano as a partner: your wild battles there are fought as doubles, and he heals your team after every battle.
You need Rock Smash, Strength and Rock Climb to make progress. The volcano is home mostly to Rock, Fire and Ground Pokémon, and about twenty of the strongest trainers in Sinnoh.

🔥The heart of the volcano
Deep inside the volcano, Buck seizes the Magma Stone, the treasure of Stark Mountain, and leaves. For the volcano’s legendary to show itself, you must go find Buck at the Survival Area and talk to him. Then return to the heart of Stark Mountain: Heatran awaits you there, at level 70.
In Platinum, Team Galactic isn’t done yet: Charon, the former Commander, wants to seize the Magma Stone. Mars and Jupiter block your way one after the other.
