Eterna Forest is Sinnoh’s only forest: a dark maze populated by insects by day and by ghosts at night. You won’t enter it alone: a lost trainer, Cheryl, accompanies you to the exit.

🌉Route 205

The Grunts from the bridge have vanished. Route 205 climbs north through a string of trainers: hikers, campers, a Battle Girl and fishermen, with Pokémon from level 11 to 15. Don’t avoid them, they prepare you well for the second Gym.

Before the forest entrance, an isolated house welcomes travelers: the lady who lives there offers you a rest, which heals your whole team. Remember it, it’s the only free healing before Eterna City.

🌲Eterna Forest and Cheryl

As soon as you enter, Cheryl asks you to escort her. She fights at your side with a Chansey: every battle in the forest becomes a Double Battle, and she heals your team after every battle. Take advantage to level up: you’re in no danger.

The path forms a loop: north, then a hairpin turn south, then east and north again. The trainers are Bug Catchers with Bug Pokémon and Psychics with Psychic Pokémon. A Fire or Flying Pokémon works wonders against the former; a Dark or Ghost Pokémon, or a Bug, against the latter.

Platinum

In Platinum, Cheryl thanks you at the exit by giving you a Soothe Bell, which makes the holder’s friendship grow faster. Ideal for evolving an Eevee or a Togepi.

🐇The forest’s Pokémon

Buneary, the long-eared rabbit, lives only here in Sinnoh: it’s your only chance to catch it in the wild. At night, the forest changes its face: Murkrow appears there in Diamond, Misdreavus in Pearl. In Platinum, Hoothoot and a few rare Gastly haunt the undergrowth.

🏰The Old Chateau, for later

East of the exit, bushes hide a ruined building: the Old Chateau. You’ll need the HM Cut, which you’ll get in Eterna City, to reach it. We’ll come back to it in the next step.

After the forest, Route 205 runs along a lake where a few trainers fish, then opens onto a large historic city: Eterna City.
