Hearthome City is the most festive city in Sinnoh: its Contest Hall hosts the greatest Coordinators, its residents prepare Poffins at all hours and its Amity Square lets you take a walk with your Pokémon. Its Gym Leader, Fantina, rules over the ghosts.

🎭The city of Contests

  1. The Contest Hall, to the north, is the only one in Sinnoh. Super Contests combine a visual presentation, a dance round and an acting round. Our Super Contests and Poffins guide details the five categories and the four ranks.
  2. At the Pokémon Fan Club, east of the Poké Mart, the chairman gives you the Poffin Case.
  3. The Poffin House, west of the Poké Mart, teaches you how to cook Poffins with your Berries, on the touch screen.
  4. On the second floor of the building south of the Gym, a woman gives you a Shell Bell, which restores HP with every hit you land.
  5. Bebe, who manages the PC Boxes, lives to the right of the Pokémon Center. In Platinum, she immediately gives you a level 20 Eevee; in Diamond and Pearl, you will have to wait for the National Pokédex (level 5).
Diamond · Pearl

In Diamond and Pearl, a hiker near the exit to Route 209 gives you an Egg, from which a Happiny will hatch. Holding an Oval Stone, it will evolve into Chansey by leveling up during the day.

🌿Amity Square

This large garden lets you walk with a Pokémon outside its Poké Ball. Only certain small Pokémon are admitted (Pikachu, Clefairy, Psyduck, Pachirisu, Drifloon, Buneary, Happiny and a few others). As you stroll, your Pokémon sometimes finds items and accessories for the Fashion Case. Several items are also hidden in the park, including TM43 Secret Power, TM45 Attract and the Spooky Plate.

👻Fantina’s Gym

Diamond · Pearl

In Diamond and Pearl, you meet Fantina in front of the Contest Hall, but she declines your challenge for now: her Gym will only open after your victories in Veilstone City and Pastoria City. You will come back in step 21. The battle against Barry, below, takes place in the city.

Platinum

In Platinum, a Trainer promises you a gift if you stop by the Contest Hall. There you find your mother, who gives you a Contest outfit, then Fantina, the Gym Leader, who invites you to challenge her. It is your third Badge.

The Platinum Gym is plunged into darkness. A flashlight lights up a small circle around you: find the symbol drawn on the floor, then take the door bearing the same symbol. A wrong door leads to a Trainer. Two rooms like this stand between you and the Gym Leader.

Our strategy

Normal and Fighting moves do not affect Ghost types: do not send out a Staraptor that only knows Normal moves.
Dark and Ghost are super effective: Bite, Thief (TM46), Shadow Ball or Shadow Claw. A Dark-type Pokémon also resists Ghost moves.
Mismagius chains Confuse Ray and Psybeam: keep your fastest attacker for it. A Steel-type Pokémon resists both its Ghost and Psychic moves.
In Platinum, Haunter knows Hypnosis: an Awakening or a Chesto Berry will save you a lost turn.

Fantina gives you the Relic Badge, which lets you use Defog outside of battle in Platinum, and TM65 Shadow Claw.

⚔️Barry, round three

Barry challenges you again, this time with four Pokémon. In Diamond and Pearl, the battle takes place in the city; in Platinum, at the eastern gatehouse, toward Route 209, and his team is much stronger (his starter at level 27).

Our strategy

His team now covers several types: Starly, Ponyta, Buizel or Roselia depending on your starter, plus his evolved starter. Vary your types, and save your best attacker for his starter, always the strongest.
