The Switch remakePokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the 2021 remake. After Kanto, Johto and Hoenn, Pokémon heads to the north of Japan. Sinnoh is based on the large island of Hokkaido: its flower fields, its crater lakes, its port cities and its snowy winters. Mt. Compatible consoles, the end of Wi-Fi and the long journey of your Pokémon all the way to HOME.
The guide →
Gold, Silver and Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen, Red, Blue and Yellow.
Head to Johto →Platinum is the most complete version: a Sinnoh Pokédex expanded to 210 Pokémon, Giratina and the Distortion World at the heart of the story, tougher Gym Leaders and the Battle Frontier. Between Diamond and Pearl, it all comes down to the legendary on the box art (Dialga or Palkia) and about ten version-exclusive Pokémon.
151 in Diamond and Pearl, 210 in Platinum. Once you have seen all of them, Professor Rowan gives you the National Pokédex, which holds 493 Pokémon in the fourth generation.
Dialga (Diamond) and Palkia (Pearl) are caught at level 47 at Spear Pillar, at the summit of Mt. Coronet, during the story. In Platinum, both can be encountered at level 70 in the same place after the League. Giratina lives in Turnback Cave (level 70) in Diamond and Pearl; in Platinum, you face it at level 47 in the Distortion World.
You need to have seen every Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex, except Manaphy, which is event-only, then go back to Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town after beating the League. You only need to have seen them, not caught them.
Yes, on Nintendo DS, DSi or 3DS with the original cartridge. The Wi-Fi service for DS games shut down in May 2014: trades and battles are now local only. Pokémon can still reach Pokémon HOME through the fifth generation, Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank, provided you have that software installed on a 3DS. The remake, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, is available on Nintendo Switch.
