Iron Island is an old mine off the coast of Canalave City. A lone Trainer, Riley, trains there with his Lucario. He has noticed that Team Galactic is lurking in the tunnels, and he needs your help.

⛴️The crossing

At Canalave City’s harbor, a sailor takes you over to Iron Island. A small house stands near the dock, empty for now. The entrance to the mine is a little further on.

Platinum

In Platinum, Riley is waiting for you in front of the mine and hands you HM04 Strength, which moves large boulders. Once you have the Mine Badge, you can use it outside battle.

⛏️The mine and Riley

Deep inside, Riley joins you. He fights at your side with his Lucario: the Team Galactic grunts blocking the tunnels take you on in Double Battles. Like Cheryl and Mira before him, he heals your team after every battle.

The mine has several basement floors linked by an elevator. The tunnels are full of Graveler, Onix and Golbat, and you will sometimes run into wild Steelix. Plenty of workers, campers and black belts challenge you along the way.

🥚The Riolu Egg

Once Team Galactic has been driven out, Riley entrusts you with an Egg. A Riolu will hatch from it, and it evolves into Lucario when it levels up during the day with high friendship. Fighting and Steel, Lucario is one of the best Pokémon in Sinnoh, and this is its only source before the National Pokédex.

  • RioluFighting

Riolu hatches from Riley's Egg. Battle with it, heal it, and don't let it faint: its friendship will rise quickly.

  • LucarioFightingSteel

Lucario learns Aura Sphere at level 37 and hits just as well physically as it does specially.

📚The meeting at the library

Back in Canalave City, go up to the top floor of the library. Professor Rowan, Barry and Dawn (or Lucas) are waiting for you. The professor talks about Sinnoh’s three lakes and their mysterious guardians… when a violent explosion shakes the city. On TV, a live report shows Lake Valor, devastated. Team Galactic has just made its move.

The race against the clock begins: Lakes Valor and Verity.
