Behind the boutiques of Lumiose City and the châteaux of the Loire, Kalos hides a tragic history: a war three thousand years old, a king mad with grief, and a machine that can give life and take it away. The whole plot of X and Y flows from it. Here is the mythology of Kalos, pieced together bit by bit.

The very name of the region holds the key: kalos, in ancient Greek, means “beautiful”. Beauty is the obsession of Kalos, the thing that makes the region so charming, and the thing that drives Lysandre to want to destroy the world in order to preserve the part of it he considers beautiful.

Clues are scattered everywhere: in the Lumiose Museum, in the Lysandre Labs, in the story told by an old man in the Pokémon Center in Kiloude City, and in the confidences of AZ in his cell.
