More than twelve years after their release, X and Y still play very well on 3DS. But time is running out for one thing: moving your Kalos Pokémon to recent games, because Pokémon Bank will close its doors on February 26, 2027. Here is everything you need to know.
🎮Compatible consoles
| Console | Compatible | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL | Yes | The original consoles, with the 3D effect in some scenes and battles. |
| Nintendo 2DS | Yes | No 3D effect, but every feature is there. |
| New Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS XL | Yes | Faster, with a more stable 3D. |
| Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 | No | There is no version of X and Y on Switch. |
🌐What no longer works
Since April 2024, the online services of 3DS games have been shut down: no more GTS, Wonder Trade, online battles or passersby in the PSS. Local battles and trades, between two nearby consoles, still work. The details are in our guide PSS, Wi-Fi and Trading.
⏳Pokémon Bank: before February 26, 2027
Pokémon Bank and the Poké Transporter outlived the end of 3DS online play. Free since March 2023, they can no longer be downloaded: you must have installed them before the eShop closed. In August 2026, Nintendo announced their permanent closure on February 26, 2027. After that date, your X and Y Pokémon will no longer be able to leave their cartridge.
- From X or Y, deposit your Pokémon in Pokémon Bank.
- On Switch or on mobile, open Pokémon HOME and link it to the Bank.
- Transfer the Pokémon from the Bank to HOME: you need HOME’s Premium Plan, and the transfer cannot be reversed.
- From HOME, send them to compatible Switch games, for example Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
🔁Reliving Kalos another way
There is no remake of X and Y so far, but Lumiose City is back in the spotlight with Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which takes place entirely in the city, five years later. See From X and Y to Legends: Z-A.
