Versant Road heads west from Lumiose City, between tall grass and a skate park. There you discover horde encounters, meet a roller-skating Gym Leader accompanied by two Lucario, then arrive at Camphrier Town, a small town at the foot of a castle that has seen better days.

🛼Route 5, Versant Road
As soon as you leave Lumiose City, a Lucario approaches you, then its Trainer arrives with a second Lucario: Korrina, the Gym Leader of Shalour City. The first Lucario seems fascinated by your aura. Korrina apologizes and promises you that you will meet again soon.
Farther along, Tierno and Trevor discuss horde encounters: sometimes five wild Pokémon burst out at once. Tierno then challenges you.

Ability: Shell Armor
Just one Pokémon: Corphish at level 12. It starts with Swords Dance, which doubles its Attack, then strikes with Vise Grip. Knock it out before it powers up: a Grass or Electric move does it in two hits.
Trevor then gives you 3 jars of Honey: spread in tall grass, Honey attracts a horde. Handy for filling the Pokédex, but be careful: it’s five against one, so favor a move that hits all opponents, like Surf or Earthquake later on.
The skate park teaches you to clear ramps on roller skates: it’s the only way to reach TM01 Hone Claws, to the northwest, after two ramps. The twins Éva and Lyn offer you the first Double Battle of the adventure.

When you arrive, a Holo Caster message sings the praises of the device. In town, don’t miss:
- Olivier, the manager of the Pokémon storage system, in the first house on the way in from Route 5. A Punk Girl there gives you TM46 Thief.
- The Name Rater, at the Pokémon Center, who renames your Pokémon.
- The Castle Inn: a boy gives you a Full Heal. Upstairs, guests change every day, and the O-Power expert gives you one.
- A man, in the house to the northwest, gives you one Berry a day if you show him a Pokémon of the type he asks for.
A man then invites you to Shabboneau Castle, to the north. There Shauna listens to a Black Belt tell the history of the castle, the former home of a noble family so generous that it ended up giving away its possessions. Nothing about Mega Evolution: Shauna calls it a “scam” and suggests you continue to Route 7.
