As always, X and Y tell the same story but do not offer quite the same Pokémon. About twenty wild species, the cover legendary and several Mega Stones change from one version to the other. Here is the complete list.

🦌The cover legendary

  • XerneasFairy

Xerneas, in Pokémon X: the Life Pokémon, a Fairy type.

  • YveltalDarkFlying

Yveltal, in Pokémon Y: the Destruction Pokémon, a Dark and Flying type.

You catch it in Team Flare Secret HQ, at level 50: it is impossible to miss. To get the other one, you need to trade with a player of the other version.

🍃Exclusive wild Pokémon

These Pokémon live in the wild in only one version. Their evolutions are exclusive too.

💎Exclusive Mega Stones

  • Charizardite X in X, Charizardite Y in Y: if you choose Charmander, Professor Sycamore gives you the one for your version.
  • Mewtwonite X in X, Mewtwonite Y in Y: it appears after you catch Mewtwo.
  • Manectite in X, Houndoominite in Y, on Route 16.
  • Pinsirite in X, Heracronite in Y, in Santalune Forest.
  • Tyranitarite in X, Aggronite in Y, in the Cyllage City Gym.

The location-by-location details are in our guide to Mega Evolution.

🎨What else changes

  • The mood: the logo, the cover and the title screen take on the blue of Xerneas or the red of Yveltal.
  • The story: only the end of Lysandre’s speech changes slightly depending on the legendary.
  • Everything else: the Gyms, the trainers, the locations and the items are identical.
