A walled city by the sea and, at the end of the beach, an abbey perched on its rock: Shalour City is Saint-Malo, and the Tower of Mastery is Mont-Saint-Michel. This is where, legend has it, the very first Mega Evolution took place.

🏰Arriving in Shalour City

As you take the lane to the left of the Pokémon Center, Tierno and Trevor catch up with you. Trevor compares his Coastal Kalos Pokédex with yours, then reminds you of the mission Professor Sycamore gave you: meet Gurkinn at the Tower of Mastery.

On the beach, Tierno gives you an Intriguing Stone that a collector gave him: he firmly believes it is a Mega Stone…

  • The Pokémon Center: the O-Power expert gives you a Critical Capture O-Power that raises your chances of a critical hit.
  • The house to the left of the Center: an old lady gives you the Soothe Bell if your first Pokémon is very fond of you, and a woman gives you 5 Stardust if you have a Psychic or Flying Pokémon in your team.
  • The house to the right of the Center: a Scientist gives you the Eviolite when you show him your Coastal Kalos Pokédex. Held by a Pokémon that can still evolve, it boosts its Defense and Sp. Def by half.
  • The Hiker blocking the stairs east of the Center trades your Intriguing Stone for a Sun Stone.
  • Hidden items: an X Sp. Atk behind the bench facing the Gym, a Stardust in a rock on the beach and a Max Repel in a bush near the tower.

🗼The Tower of Mastery and Gurkinn

In the center of the tower stands a giant statue of Mega Lucario, around which a ramp winds up to the summit. Gurkinn lives in the base of the statue with his granddaughter Korrina. It turns out the Intriguing Stone belonged to him.

In front of you and your four friends, the old man explains the secret of Mega Evolution: some Pokémon, holding their Mega Stone, transform for the duration of a battle if their Trainer wears a Mega Ring. He has only one to give: you and your rival will compete for it.

Our strategy

Three Pokémon: Meowstic and Absol at level 28, then their starter Pokémon at level 30, already evolved.
Meowstic, a Psychic type, fears Bug, Ghost and Dark. Absol, a Dark type, fears Fighting, Bug and Fairy: Mienfoo or a Fairy Pokémon do the job.
Your rival’s starter Pokémon has the advantage over yours: keep a Pokémon in reserve that counters it.

After your victory, Korrina stops you: to earn the Mega Ring, you will still have to beat her in her Gym. In the tower, an Ace Trainer gives you TM47 Low Sweep, which lowers the opponent’s Speed.
