X and Y brought your Pokémon onto the touch screen. With Pokémon-Amie, you pet them, feed them and play with them. With Super Training, you train their stats by firing balloons. Two tools available at any time from the bottom screen, which really change your battles.
💖Pokémon-Amie
Choose a Pokémon from your team: it appears in a small living room. Three gauges describe it: affection, fullness and playfulness.
- Petting your Pokémon increases its affection, but lowers its playfulness after a while. Each Pokémon has its favourite spots.
- Feeding it Poké Puffs fills its fullness and increases its affection.
- Playing a mini-game raises its playfulness and earns you Poké Puffs, but works up its appetite.
- Making faces in front of the 3DS camera: your Pokémon imitates your head movements and smiles.
🎮The three mini-games
- Berry Picker: give each Pokémon the Berry it asks for, before it gets impatient.
- Head Ball: touch your Pokémon to bounce the balls of yarn, at the right moment to double the points.
- Poké Puzzle: rebuild an animated scene of your Pokémon, cut up and shuffled.
Each has three levels, Easy, Normal and Hard, plus an Endless mode. The harder the level, the better the Poké Puffs you win.
⚔️What affection changes in battle
- From two hearts, your Pokémon gains 20% more experience.
- The more affection rises, the more it sometimes dodges an attack, lands critical hits and heals itself of status conditions.
- At maximum, it can hang on with 1 HP against a hit that should have knocked it out.
- Sylveon: an Eevee that has at least two hearts and knows a Fairy-type move evolves into Sylveon when it levels up.
🎯Super Training
Super Training trains EVs, the effort points that raise stats, without having to fight wild Pokémon. Two methods:
- The challenges: your Pokémon faces a giant balloon shaped like a Pokémon. Fire balloons at the targets and dodge the opponent’s to reach the required score. There is one challenge per stat, in three difficulty levels: the harder it is, the more EVs it gives.
- The sandbags, won as rewards for the challenges: set one down, and your Pokémon hits it repeatedly to gain EVs in a stat. Some bring other bonuses, such as happiness.
