🌼Route 4, Parterre Way

This symmetrical route is made of geometric gardens, hedge mazes and a large fountain, the Pearl Fountain. There is no tall grass here: the Pokémon live in the yellow and red flower beds.

This is where you discover the Fairy type, with Flabébé. Its flower changes depending on the bed: yellow in yellow flowers, red in red flowers. Orange and white flowers are rarer, and found everywhere.

The hedge mazes hide many items, including three jars of Honey. At the end of the route, two of the Professor’s assistants, Sina and Dexio, call out to you: Dexio gives you TM27 Return, then both of them guide you to the lab.

🔬Professor Sycamore’s lab

Lumiose City is still partly closed: a power outage limits you to South Boulevard and Vernal Avenue. The lab, on South Boulevard, is waiting for you. On the second floor, your rival and Shauna join you, and Professor Sycamore offers you a battle while you wait for Tierno and Trevor.

Our strategy

His three Pokémon are at level 10: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Your starter easily beats at least one of them; save your second Pokémon for the one that has the advantage over it. And don’t worry: whatever the outcome of the battle, the Professor gives you one of the three.

Choose your Kanto Pokémon at level 10. The Professor also gives you its Mega Stone, which will only be of use once you get the Mega Ring, much later:

On the first floor, a Scientist gives you 5 Luxury Balls. On the ground floor, the group runs into Lysandre, a friend of the Professor, who wanted to meet his young protégés. A Scientist on the second floor will later give you TM54 False Swipe, once you have seen 20 Pokémon in the Central Kalos Pokédex.

☕Café Soleil

Before leaving, the group takes a stroll through the open part of the city. At Café Soleil, Lysandre introduces you to a movie star, Diantha, who is interested in Mega Evolution. A Holo Caster message from Tierno then calls you toward Route 5: the rest of Lumiose City will wait for your return.

Next step: Route 5 and Camphrier Town.
