Tailored red suits, futuristic sunglasses and a five-million membership fee: Team Flare is the most elegant, and the most unsettling, organization in the series. Its goal? A “more beautiful” world… even if that means making everyone who doesn’t belong to it disappear.

🔥Lysandre, the boss

Lysandre

A wealthy inventor of the Holo Caster and owner of Lysandre Café, he wants to restore the world to its original beauty. A descendant of King AZ’s brother, he plans to use the weapon his ancestor buried beneath Geosenge Town. He wears a Mega Ring and Mega Evolves his Gyarados.

You first meet him as a charming man at Café Soleil in Lumiose City, where he introduces you to Diantha, then at Lysandre Café, where he gets carried away talking about the future of the world. After your seventh Badge, he shows his true colors in a message broadcast on every Holo Caster.

👩‍🔬The scientists

Xerosic

The head of the scientists and the technical brains behind the ultimate weapon. You battle him on the third basement floor of Lysandre Labs. He returns in the post-game, in the Looker Bureau storyline.

Aliana

She waits for you at Kalos Power Plant, then at Lysandre Labs, with Mightyena.

Bryony

She occupies the Poké Ball Factory with Mable, then guards the Labs.

Mable

She teams up with Bryony at the Poké Ball Factory.

Celosia

With blue hair and lipstick and high-tech glasses, she wants to steal the energy of the Abomasnow in Frost Cavern, and gives you the Lift Key for the Labs.

Malva

Holo Caster presenter and member of the Elite Four, she also belongs to Team Flare. You face her at the Pokémon League.

💥The ultimate weapon

Three thousand years ago, King AZ built a machine to bring back to life his Floette, who had died in the war. He then turned it into a weapon to end the conflict, at the cost of a massacre. His brother had the machine buried beneath what is now Geosenge Town, near the standing stones raised in memory of the sacrificed Pokémon.

To wake it up, Team Flare needs three things: the electricity from Kalos Power Plant, which explains the blackout in Lumiose City; the energy of Kalos’s legendary Pokémon, Xerneas or Yveltal; and the key that AZ carries. The entire plot of X and Y flows from this plan. The full story is in our feature Kalos mythology.
